Weird Florida
John LaRoche is searching for the "Ghost Orchid." It's very rare and only a few have ever been seen. He thinks he can find them in the Florida Everglades and this book is about his search. John LaRoche is also a little bit crazy... er, obsessed... he wanders through waist-deep swamps, dodging snakes and alligators, looking for this orchid...eeuw!
THE ORCHID THIEF is the basis for the oldie-but-goodie film "Adaptation." The book also looks at Florida and its past... the people who move in to make a quick buck, the way the local Indians were treated (badly) and, most of all, a fascinating story for anyone who's ever had a Hobby they couldn't quite quit.
